Loving father and brother

Mr. David Henry Derouin, 55, of Middlebury, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home in the presence of his loving family on Friday, September 27, 2024, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. He was a true warrior and fighter for the past year. He was comforted in love by his daughter Maeve. He was the widower of Georgette “Michele” (Bisson) Derouin.

David was born in Waterbury, January 23, 1969, son of the late Donald Henry and Kathleen (MacSweeney) Derouin. He was a graduate of St. Margaret’s McTernan Grammar School and Holy Cross High School Class of 1987. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in teaching from Southern Connecticut State University. He was employed by the Region 15 School District as a kind and caring third grade teacher at Long Meadow Elementary School in Middlebury for the past 18 years. He was a true inspiration for his students and colleagues. David was a skilled creative writer, a talented artist with acrylic and pencil, an avid gardener and his favorite places were the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard.

Besides his daughter, Maeve, David leaves to cherish his memory: his sisters, Donna Sanders of Thomaston and Lori McGovern of Woodbury; a mother-in-law, Georgette Bisson; a brother-in-law, Christopher Ranaudo of Middlebury; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Michele and his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Dianne Bromley Ranaudo.

David’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Brookside Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home & Crematory at 200 Benson Road in Middlebury. Burial will be private on a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 12 noon to until the time of the service.
