Many Middlebury voters took advantage of being able to vote early in the November 5 presidential election. A steady stream of voters during the 14-day early voting period brought the total number of early voters to 2,683, or roughly 40% of Middlebury’s registered voters. Of those voters, 738 were Democrats, 1,013 were Republican, 893 were Unaffiliated and 39 were Other.
Asked about absentee voting, Town Clerk Brigitte Bessette said her office had issued 347 absentee ballots so far, and 271 had been returned. She said those who haven’t already mailed in their absentee ballots can drop them in the drop box outside the town hall door. She will check that drop box when the polls close on Tuesday, November 5, at 8 p.m.
Emergency applications for absentee ballots can be submitted today, Monday, and on Election Day. All absentee ballots must be turned in by the time the polls close at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
On Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, the Middlebury polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Voting will be at Shepardson Community Building at 1172 Whittemore Road, with District 1 voters casting ballots in Room 5 on the lower level and District 2 voters casting their ballots in the auditorium on the upper level. Those who are not registered to vote can go through the same day registration process on Election Day. To do so, please go to the registrars of voters office in Middlebury Town Hall.
