Three-vehicle accident on Straits Turnpike results in fatality

Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 11:04 a.m., the Middlebury Police Department responded to a three-car motor vehicle accident in the area of 1924 Straits Turnpike (Rte. 63). It was reported that one car was overturned, and one car was on fire. The Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the accident.

Two of the three operators and one occupant were transported to Waterbury Hospital. One
driver succumbed to their injuries because of the accident. The names of those involved have not yet been released by the police department.

This accident is currently under investigation by the Naugatuck Valley Regional Accident
Reconstruction Team. Route 63 was closed from shortly after 11 a.m. to just before 3 p.m.
