Regional School District 15 Superintendent Joshua Smith’s court date on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane was March 21, 2025. The newspaper contacted the courts to ask what had happened and was told the court records have been sealed. The Superior Court clerk said the only information available is that the next court date will be March 20, 2026, at 10 a.m. in New Britain Superior Court. She said only Smith and his attorney can access information on the case.
On January 18, 2025, at 1 a.m., Smith was involved in a one-car accident in Southington. No one was injured. Smith told police there he was driving down Mulberry Street when he swerved because an animal ran into the road. After he swerved to the left, his vehicle crossed the center line, hit a utility pole, snapping it at the base, and then struck a Volvo parked at a Mulberry Street home. Police charged him with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane.
