Overdose Awareness Day is Friday

#Middlebury

International Overdose Awareness Day will be observed locally for the first time Friday, Aug. 31, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Library Park in Waterbury. During the day, Wellmore Behavioral Health will observe the day by opening its doors to the community between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for “Overdose Prevention 101 and Narcan Demonstration.”

The evening event will include a remembrance ceremony during which the names of those lost to overdoses will be read aloud and a shoe display will represent those lost.

Information will be provided on drug risks, Narcan training, treatment resources and family support. Those who bring an insurance card will be able to obtain Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Families and friends who have lost a loved one, people in recovery, people who use drugs, community members and businesses are invited to attend. Email the name of your loved one to be read aloud to CNVRAC1@famintervention.com.

The daytime event at Wellmore also will provide Narcan training, and Narcan will be available there for those who bring their insurance cards. Wellmore is at 402 E. Main Street in Waterbury. Their number is 203-755-1143.
