Alicia “Lee” Ostar, 85, of Middlebury passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Leo Franklin Ostar who passed away in 2003.
Mrs. Ostar was born July 24, 1933 in Queens, N.Y. She was raised in Queens before attending Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School. After she was married, Mrs. Ostar and her husband moved to Middlebury. She had been very active in local politics and was a member of the Republican Women’s Club and had served as vice chairperson of the Republican Town Committee. She served her community as Middlebury assistant town clerk from 1981 until becoming town clerk in 1987, a position she held until her retirement in 2003. Upon recommendation of the Secretary of State, she was named Town Clerk of the Year in 1999.
Mrs. Ostar is survived by her sons, Leo F. Ostar II and his wife, Catherine, and their children, Allison and Emily, of Southbury and Philip J. Ostar and his wife, Marlene, of Middlebury.
The funeral service will be Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, with the funeral procession leaving the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck at 201 Meadow St. at 9:15 am and proceeding to St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Burial will follow in Middlebury Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, Aug. 30, from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
