Learn about literacy tutoring

Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury (LVGW) will host orientation sessions for adults interested in learning about volunteer opportunities teaching local adults to read, write, speak, and understand English. Individuals who are at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent are invited to attend one of the following sessions to learn more:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 4, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., Prospect Public Library, 17 Center St., Prospect
  • Wednesday, Sept. 5, 10 – 11:30 a.m., Southbury Public Library, 100 Poverty Road, Southbury
  • Wednesday, Sept. 5, 6:30 – 8 p.m., Howard Whittemore Memorial Library, 243 Church St., Naugatuck
  • Thursday, Sept. 6, 6:30 – 8 p.m., Middlebury Public Library, 30 Crest Road, Middlebury
  • Saturday, Sept. 8, 10 – 11:30 a.m., Depot Square Mall, Suite 213, 51 Depot St., Watertown
  • Wednesday, Sept. 12, 6 – 7:30 p.m., Silas Bronson Library, Auditorium, 267 Grand St., Waterbury
  • Friday, Sept. 14, 7 – 8:30 p.m., Family Worship Center, 258 Montoe Road, Waterbury

Other necessary qualifications for a literacy volunteer are strong oral and written English skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and an email address. LVGW serves the communities of Beacon Falls, Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oakville, Watertown, Oxford, Plymouth, Terryville, Prospect, Southbury, Thomaston, Waterbury, Wolcott, and Woodbury.
