Joan W. Lyon, 88, of Middlebury passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, surrounded by family at Waterbury Hospital. She was the beloved wife of George Lyon.
Mrs. Lyon was born Sept. 19, 1930 in Bristol, the daughter of the late Leroy and Katherine (Perun) Webb. She was raised in Bethel and attended local schools, graduating from Bethel High School. She had been a Middlebury resident since moving into town with her husband in 1979. Joan was known as an animal lover and regular contributor to local and national charities.
Besides her husband of 40 years, Mrs. Lyon is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Russell Chartier of Danbury; her granddaughter, Julia Miller of Naugatuck, who she raised; step-sons Mark (Colleen) and Wayne Lyon; her grandchildren, Jason and Karen Chartier of Cheshire, Russell and Jackie Chartier of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Nathaniel and Rachel Lyon of Niantic and her great-grandchildren Ryan, Joey, Caimhe and Devon. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her daughter, Lori Baisley.
In observation of her wishes and the wishes of her immediate family there will be no funeral service or calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to The Connecticut Humane Society. The Alderson-Ford Funeral home of Naugatuck is assisting with arrangements.
