Loving mother, grandmother and sister

Genie “Iphigenia” (Moschos) Rigopulos of Watertown passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Dec. 4. She was the loving wife of the late Christopher N. Rigopulos, former president of CT Tube Products.

Genie was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Constantine M. Moschos. Genie was a graduate of Classical High School, Clark University and received her masters degree from Western Connecticut State University. Coming to Waterbury as a bride, she worked as a librarian at Silas Bronson Library and then for many years was a third grade teacher at Judson, then South School, in Watertown.

Genie was the consummate volunteer and believer in giving back to one’s community. She served on the Board of the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, president of the Women’s League of the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, Board of Waterbury Easter Seals, Board of YWCA Waterbury, president of Women’s Committee Mattatuck Museum, Board of Child Guidance (now Wellmore), Board of VNA, St. Margaret’s Parents Association, Holy Trinity Daughters of Penelope, Development Director of Waterbury Hospital and Director of SQUAD Waterbury.

She has rejoined her beloved Chris, her blue eyed Greek god, and her “giggle girls” Priscilla, Copey, Joie and Patty. Genie, the ever present tennis mom, was a member of Waterbury Country Club and Highfield.

She leaves her daughter, Karen, of Watertown, with whom she resided; son, Nicholas, of Boston, Massachusetts; daughter, Kristine, and son-in-law, William Guttman, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and her most cherished and loved beyond all measure grandchildren, Christopher, Alexander and Julia. Genie was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Moschos (Sophia) of Dallas, Texas, and is also survived by her siblings, Lolly Lewry (Arthur) of Rochester Hills, Michigan; Michael (Susan) Moschos of Worcester, Massachusetts; Demitri (Celeste) Moschos of Worcester, Massachusetts; Thalia Calmar of Middlebury, Connecticut; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Thank you to VNA Watertown and her aides, Lisa, Ericka and Marisol, who took such good care of her.

Genie’s funeral will start with a prayer service Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 9 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home at 430 Chase Parkway in Waterbury followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 937 Chase Parkway in Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Trisagion service will be held Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
