At 4 p.m. Tuesday, Connecticut state officials said there were 7,781 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state as of 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7. This is an increase of 875 cases over the 6,906 the day before at 11:30 a.m. The number of confirmed cases in Middlebury increased to 11.
On Tuesday, 1,308 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 277 had died.
The groups with the largest number of cases were ages 50 – 59 (1,550 cases) followed by ages 40 – 49 (1,302 cases) and ages 60 – 69 (1,247 cases).
On a graph showing how many people per 100,000 in each age group are testing positive, the three highest rates of positive tests were ages 80 and older (387 cases per 100,000), ages 40 – 49 (296 cases per 100,000) and ages 50 – 59 (293 cases per 100,000).
The report said a state public health lab tested 2,772 patients, and 685, or 25%, of those tested positive. Statewide, more than 29,036 tests have been reported.
Hospitalization numbers were: Fairfield County had 613 (+41) patients, New Haven County had 390 (+6) patients, and Hartford County had 243 (+30) patients. Other counties had 26 or fewer patients.
