At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Connecticut state officials said there were 8,781 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state as of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8. This is an increase of 1,000 cases over the 7,781 the day before at 12:30 p.m. The number of confirmed cases in Middlebury increased to 14.
On Wednesday, 1,418 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 335 had died.
The groups with the largest number of cases were ages 50 – 59 (1,761 cases) followed by ages 40 – 49 (1,438 cases) and ages 60 – 69 (1,417 cases).
On a graph showing how many people per 100,000 in each age group are testing positive, the three highest rates of positive tests were ages 80 and older (458 cases per 100,000), ages 50 – 59 (333 cases per 100,000) and ages 60 – 69 (328 cases per 100,000).
The report said a state public health lab tested 2,844 patients, and 728, or 26%, of those tested positive. Statewide, more than 31,700 tests have been reported.
Hospitalization numbers were: Fairfield County had 665 (+52) patients, New Haven County had 428 (+38) patients, and Hartford County had 251 (+8) patients. Other counties had 28 or fewer patients.
