Q: What happened to Lisa Vanderpump, and why isn’t she on the new season of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”? Also, who is the woman who replaced her named Garcelle? My sister said she was she a supermodel in the ’80s. – B.W.
A: Lisa Vanderpump, who was an original castmember of the “RHoBH,” didn’t show up for the on-camera reunion hosted by Andy Cohen at the end of last season, reaffirming that she was done with the show after nine years. The tipping point seems to have been “puppygate,” which started when fellow castmember Dorit Kemsley adopted a dog from Lisa’s rescue organization. After the pup nipped at one of her kids, she rehomed it with a friend, who reportedly brought the dog to a shelter. This really upset Lisa, and she accused Dorit of being the one to abandon the dog. The rest of the cast then accused Lisa of selling the “puppygate” story to “Radar,” which Lisa denied.
After quitting the show, Lisa told “Extra” TV news: “I just had a horrible time with the show and the women. It was a very sad time in my life, and it wasn’t made any better. I decided just to walk away.”
As for her replacement, Garcelle Beauvais did start out as a model but quickly transitioned to acting. I first remember seeing her in “Models Inc.,” a spinoff of the popular soap “Melrose Place,” but she’s probably better known for her regular roles on the sitcom “The Jamie Foxx Show” and the police drama “NYPD Blue.” She also has a role in the upcoming Eddie Murphy film “Coming to America 2.” She’s had quite a successful acting career!
Q: Will the historical drama “Victoria” be returning to PBS this year? -Ð J.M.
A: So far there have been three seasons, consisting of seven to eight episodes each, of the critically acclaimed Masterpiece series “Victoria.” However, with the pandemic shutting down production in Hollywood and overseas, any news of a fourth season is simply up in the air.
The best way to receive the most up-to-date information is through a free online newsletter, which you can sign up for at: www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/. If a fourth season is on the horizon, you’ll surely read about it there.
Q: Whatever happened to the CBS newscaster Giselle something? I think she was a reporter on “60 Minutes” and was a big deal about 20 years ago, but then she just disappeared. – R.R.
A: You’re probably thinking of Giselle Fernandez, who rose through the ranks at CBS News, but not “60 Minutes,” and then went over to NBC. She even interviewed Fidel Castro. Then in the mid-to-late 1990s she transitioned into entertainment news, co-hosting the syndicated “Access Hollywood,” and then later worked for a local news affiliate in Los Angeles. Now, at 58 years old, Fernandez anchors “Your Morning on Spectrum News 1” in Southern California, as well as the weekly news program “LA Stories.”
