In its first report since Friday, August 14, 2020, Connecticut state officials said on Sunday, August 16, at 8:30 p.m. there were 51,267 COVID-19 cases in the state, an increase of 370 cases since Thursday, August 13, at 8:30 p.m. The total number of cases in Middlebury decreased to 52 (-1).

On Sunday at 8:30 p.m., 42 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, a decrease of 14 patients, and there were 4,456 deaths, an increase of 3 deaths.

Cases in Middlebury and abutting towns were: Middlebury – 48 confirmed and 4 probable, Naugatuck – 423 confirmed and 11 probable, Oxford – 85 confirmed and 4 probable, Southbury – 200 confirmed and 5 probable, Woodbury – 56 confirmed and 1 probable, Watertown – 153 confirmed and 9 probable, and Waterbury – 2,129 confirmed and 91 probable.
