#Middlebury #COVID19
Citing the town’s red COVID-19 community status and the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in Middlebury, First Selectman Edward B. St. John on Monday, November 9, announced that, effective immediately, civic groups, boards, commissions and committees will not be permitted to meet at Shepardson Community Center (or at any other town facility) and must hold meetings virtually until further notice.
In a memo announcing the mandatory virtual meetings, St. John said health district officials are encouraging virtual communication in order to protect and keep our local schools open. He said holding meetings virtually helps lower the risk of transmission to those attending and working in the schools.
Meetings will be held via Zoom, and instructions for joining the meetings will be included in agendas posted on the town website, Middlebury-ct.org.
A red COVID-19 community status is assigned by the state to towns with an average daily rate of 15 or more cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 population. Middlebury’s most recent rate is 29.7 cases for the period October 18 to 31. During that two-week period, the town had 10 new cases the first week and 22 new cases the second week. Those numbers exclude residents of nursing home, assisted living, or correctional facilities.
