On Friday, January 8, 2021, Connecticut state officials said from Wednesday, January 6, 2020, at 8:30 p.m. to Thursday, January 7, 2021, at 8:30 p.m., COVID-19 cases in the state rose to 205,994. This is an increase of 3,236 cases over 24 hours.

On Thursday at 8:30 p.m., 1,109 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, an increase of 22 patients, and deaths numbered 6,324, an increase of 37 deaths.

Cumulative cases in Middlebury and abutting towns were: Middlebury – 423 confirmed (+2) and 35 probable (no change), Naugatuck – 1,922 confirmed and 128 probable, Oxford – 471 confirmed and 26 probable, Southbury – 781 confirmed and 51 probable, Woodbury – 360 confirmed and 20 probable, Watertown – 1,315 confirmed and 111 probable, and Waterbury – 9,268 confirmed and 600 probable.
