Loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend

Mr. Robert J. “Cap” Capobianco, 62 of Middlebury, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at his home with family and friends by his side, after the result of brain cancer. He was the husband of Daria (Driscoll) Capobianco.

Bob was born in Waterbury June 16, 1958, son of Joseph D. and Rosetta (Lombardi) Capobianco. He was a 1976 graduate of Holy Cross High School and a 1980 graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Bob’s entire professional career spanned 40 years in the banking industry. He was involved with organization of a startup bank in Bristol during the 1980’s (Community Bank) and was a vice president of commercial lending for many years. As a lender, he built strong relationships. He focused on doing what was best for his customers. He later had the privilege to work for Newtown Savings Bank. While at Newtown Savings Bank, he initially started as vice president Commercial Credit Department Manager. He concluded his career as first vice president Asset Quality Manager and chairman of the Loan Risk Committee. His office door was always open to coworkers. He was a willing listener and offered suggestions when asked. His professionalism will be missed by all.

Bob was a dedicated, hardworking, caring individual and always ready and willing to help friends and family. Bob enjoyed the ocean and spent many weekends with family and Daria on the family’s boat in Stratford. He also enjoyed working on home improvement projects and was meticulous in every detail. Both he and Daria enjoyed trips to Jacksonville Beach and spending time in St. Augustine, Florida.

Besides his wife, Daria, of 20 years, left to honor and cherish his memory are his parents; his brothers, Dr. David J. Capobianco and his wife, Elise, of Jacksonville, Florida and Joseph P. Capobianco of Middlebury; and his sister, Diane Pangia of Prospect. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews, and a grandniece, Caitlyn Pangia and Michael Pangia, both of Prospect; Christine Veneman and her husband, Sean; Avery Veneman; Laura Capobianco, Alexandra Capobianco, Andrew Capobianco, Matthew Capobianco, all of Jacksonville, Florida; his uncle, Michael Lombardi; and his cousins, John Lombardi of Waterbury and Donna Lombardi of Wolcott, Celeste Makely and her husband John of New Jersey, Joseph L. Capobianco and his wife Jackie of Middlebury, Carl Capobianco and his wife Pauline of Rhode Island, attorney David Capobianco and his wife, Sharon, of Rhode Island, and Sandra Kerekes and her husband, Attila, of Rhode Island.

The family would like to thank the friendship and care provided by Dr. Jega and staff, as well as all the care providers at Yale New Haven and St. Mary’s hospitals. We also would like to thank the hospice team who helped and supported the entire family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church at 1263 West Street in Middlebury. Burial will follow at Lake Elise Cemetery. Calling hour with the cremains present will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Brookside Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home & Crematory at 200 Benson Road in Middlebury.
