Some scammers make mistakes

VETERANS POST
By Freddy Groves

In the not-too-bright department, a veteran threatened to blow up a Department of Veterans Affairs medical facility. First he called the crisis line and made multiple threats to blow up a facility. Two days later he texted the crisis line and said he would take out all the VA facilities, and he identified which employee he wanted to kill. He indicated his location, and was found and arrested.

Then there was the guy who claimed he was paralyzed and couldn’t walk. Yes, he was injured earlier, but got treatment and was apparently doing well. Suddenly, a few years later, he claimed he was paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. He was granted disability. The Office of Inspector General, however, investigated and discovered that the veteran was able to go up and down stairs, walk, bend, lift, carry, work out at the gym and more.

The only time he used a wheelchair was when he had to go to the VA for a medical appointment. He’d load the wheelchair into the car by himself, use the wheelchair while at the VA, then put it back in the car. This was caught on years of surveillance footage, and he was arrested. Hint to thieves who want to pull a similar scam: Don’t post photos and videos of yourself lifting weights and posing in front of mirrors at the gym.

Then there was the guy who collected and swapped kiddie porn across the internet. He was a big supplier in his state and was arrested when his devices were searched and thousands of images discovered. While on bond for that charge, a year later, it was learned that a certain facility had suddenly become a hotbed of swapping over the internet, determined by the IP address. That facility was a VA residential living facility, and the guy had just moved in. His devices were seized, and you guessed it, there were hundreds more images on them.

No, these people aren’t very bright.
