The Waterbury Police Department is proud to announce its participation in the Fall 2024 Statewide Gun Buyback Event, in partnership with the Newtown Action Alliance Foundation. The event, aimed at enhancing community safety by providing residents with a secure and anonymous way to dispose of unwanted firearms, will take place Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Waterbury Police Training Division at 240 Bank St. in Waterbury, Connecticut. In conjunction with the buyback, a limited number of free pin code gun safes will be available on a first come, first served basis. See flyer at the end of this text.

The gun buyback program offers residents a chance to safely remove firearms from their homes, helping reduce the risk of accidental shootings, suicides, and other gun-related incidents. In exchange for turning in their firearms, participants will receive gift cards, further incentivizing this important safety initiative.

Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “This gun buyback is a vital step in promoting safety and preventing gun violence in our city. We’re grateful to be part of a statewide effort that encourages responsible gun disposal and helps protect our community.”

The Waterbury Police Department extends its heartfelt thanks to the generous supporters who have made this event possible: Project Longevity, Justice Education Center Inc., City of Waterbury, Police Activity League of Waterbury, Saint Mary’s Hospital and Waterbury Hospital. These partners play a crucial role in making this event a reality, and their commitment to community safety is greatly appreciated.

All guns should be brought unloaded and safely stored in a bag or box. No identification is required, and the process is completely anonymous. For more information, please contact the Waterbury Police Department’s Community Relation’s Division at 203-574-6962.
