Hearing reports that a Woodbury police officer had been attacked and stabbed in the neck during a routine traffic stop, we contacted Woodbury First Selectman Barbara Perkinson to ask for information about the incident. Perkinson said it was too soon to issue a statement. “All we know is the officer is at the hospital,” she said. “We are hoping for good news.”

Middlebury Fire Chief Brett Kales said Woodbury requested the Middlebury ambulance, which did respond, but the officer was instead transported to the hospital in a police cruiser.

Further details will be reported as they become available.

UPDATED: 10-04-2024 at 5:15 pm. Per NBC Connecticut footage of the live press conference, State Police say Officer Tim Wright was attacked. He is in Waterbury Hospital in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery. State Police said it is likely they will issue a press release Friday morning.
