#MiddleburyCT #Obituary

Paul J. Shea, 81, of Middlebury passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Vitas at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband to Heidi (Lewicki) Shea for 56 beautiful years.

Paul was born on March 8, 1943, in Waterbury, CT, the son to the late Vincent and Helen (Scully) Shea. In his young adulthood, Paul served proudly in the United States Army Reserves. He graduated from Villanova University and the University of Connecticut School of Law, earning a Law degree. He eventually opened a law practice, assisting the Middlebury community for over 50 years.

Paul’s involvement in the Middlebury community extended beyond the law practice. A member of the Middlebury Lions Club for many decades, he was selected to serve as president for several terms. Paul was a man of deep faith and was a devoted member of St. John of the Cross Church.

In Paul’s downtime, he could be found outdoors. Whether he was working in his garden, tending to his chickens, or driving around town in his notable yellow truck, he found great peace. He also enjoyed laughing with ‘the Bluebirds’ and cheering on the Villanova Wildcats during basketball season.

Besides his devoted wife Heidi, Paul leaves behind his daughters, Kyla Shea of Waltham, Mass., Heidi Ball and husband Steve of Woodbury, Conn., and Ellyn Kirk and husband Matt of East Grand Rapids, Mich. He was the favorite Dziadgi to his grandchildren, Danny and Colleen Kirk of East Grand Rapids, Mich., and Connor Ball of Woodbury, Conn. He also leaves to cherish his memory his siblings, Dr. Richard Shea and wife Sally of Watertown, Conn., Rosemary Petruzzi and husband Len of Southbury, Conn., Helen Chittum and husband Jay of Woodbury, Conn., and Tara Gryga and husband Phil of Wolcott, Conn.; his sisters-in-law, Judy Shea of Woodbury, Conn., and Kathie Shea of Wolcott, Conn.; his brothers-in-law, Lee Powers of Middlebury, Conn., and Leonard Genovese of Delray Beach, Fla, as well as several nieces and nephews. Paul is predeceased by his brothers, Timothy Shea and David Shea, as well as his sisters, Sheila Powers and Colleen Genovese.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury. Burial will be held after Mass in Lake Elise Cemetery in Middlebury.
