Loving husband, father, uncle and cousin

Alfred D. Ulozas, 90, of Middlebury, entered into the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the VITAS Inpatient Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Geraldine J. (Whitanis) Ulozas.

Alfred was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 22, 1934, a son of the late Jonas Ulozas and Fruze (Rupeikaite) Ulozas Simulevics. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School Class of 1952 and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Connecticut. He also earned an associate’s degree as a legal assistant from Mattatuck Community College. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

He was a longtime educator and scholar, teaching most recently at Heminway Park School in Watertown. He previously worked as a writer and editor for the Weekly Reader out of Wesleyan University in Middletown. Alfred was a former member and past 3rd degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus in Middlebury and a former member of the Lions Club in Middlebury, where he served as treasurer. Alfred was proud of his Lithuanian heritage and was a member and treasurer of the Knights of Lithuania Council #7 Waterbury. Alfred had a lifelong interest in history and civics. He was an avid NASCAR fan and attended several races with his family.

Besides his wife, Geraldine, of 52 years, Alfred leaves to honor and cherish his memory two sons, Robert D. Ulozas and Daniel J. Ulozas, both of Middlebury; two nieces, Catherine Ulozas and Judith Johnson and her husband, Reed; and his very close first cousin, Roberta Jacovino and her husband, Joe, of Middlebury. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Ulozas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Brookside Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home & Crematory at 200 Benson Road in Middlebury has been entrusted with Alfred’s services.
