The Woodbury Lions Club is actively seeking creative volunteers to assist in this year’s Haunted Hayride. They are in need of artists, actors and makeup people to help in the Haunted Barn.

“Many students are looking for community service opportunities and this is one way for them to earn their credits and have fun at the same time,” said Event Chairman Lion Gary Greenstein.

Additionally, Greenstein says there are many spots available outside the barn. “We’re looking to make the hayride itself more intense,” he explained. “Volunteers are welcome to participate in one of the traditional venues, or create one of their own. Families, groups of friends, and businesses are welcome to create a tableau for along the path of the hayride. For example, we want to dig up some fresh scenes for the cemetery.”

Proceeds from the Hayride help the Woodbury Lions Club provide scholarships to graduating seniors from Nonnewaug High School. This year, they gave out $20,000 in assistance. The Lions are asking that volunteers commit to all four nights of the Hayride, Oct. 20, 21, 27 and 28, and be at least 16 years of age. Experience is not necessary.

They also need volunteers who can help set up the venues until the first night of the event.
