Loving husband, father, grandfather and son
George Strobel Jr. of Middlebury entered eternal rest Sunday, June 17, 2018. He and his wife, Elaine Rinaldi Strobel, were married 38 years and had five children, Dr. Nicole (Thomas), Anne (Brandon), George III (Ashley), Phillip (Tammy), and Jonathan. They have six grandchildren Benjamin, Grace, George IV, Lucas, Adeline, and Josephine.
George was born Oct. 28, 1956, in Waterbury to George Sr. and Mary Jane (Gandy) Strobel. He graduated from Bentley University, received his CPA, and was the controller and treasurer of GSS Industries for 35 years. An avid golfer, he enjoyed Wednesday afternoon matches with his friends, and loved doing timed crosswords puzzles. One of his prized memories was walking the “Coast to Coast” trail of England. He and his wife walked the entire span from the Irish Sea to the North Sea. His happiest moments were spent with his grandchildren.
George was an involved member of the Greater Waterbury community. He was a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, was awarded the Saint Joseph 2017 Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation from the Archdiocese of Hartford, was the chairman of the Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation, the former president of the Smaller Manufacturers Association, former chairman of the Greater Waterbury United Way Campaign, and a member of the CSCPA and AACPA.
Besides his wife, parents, children, and grandchildren he leaves his siblings, William (Debra), Susan (William) Crowe, Richard (Lori), Stephen, and Cathleen (Mickey) Wyse.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 22, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Waterbury. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Middlebury Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, June 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home & Crematory at 200 Benson Road in Middlebury.
