WOLCOTT – Jean Toomey, 90, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the widow of Howard Toomey.
Mrs. Toomey was born in Waterbury, Nov. 20, 1923, a daughter of the late Charles and Lucille Koosa. She was a longtime resident of Waterbury, and she, along with her husband owned Industrial Mailing Systems for many years. Jean also volunteered at Rotella Magnet School in Waterbury. She loved dogs, enjoyed her sweets and will always be remembered as being a true lady.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Toomey and his wife, Deborah; her three daughters, Patty Scionti and her husband, Paul; Janice Gugliotti; and Christina Toomey; her two grandchildren, Amy Paternoster and Jason Gugliotti; and her two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Melissa Paternoster; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Toomey; and several nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by a son, Douglas Toomey; three brothers, John, Eddie, and Philip Koosa; and two sisters, Sue Koosa and Julia Topshe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception at 74 West Main St. in Waterbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home at 240 North Main St. in Naugatuck is assisting the family with arrangements.
